ABOUT ME

Alison I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1993 and since then I have worked with adults and adolescents in both mental health and educational settings.

I am a member of the British Psychological Society, registered with them as a Chartered Psychologist. The British Psychological Society is the representative body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. It is responsible for developing, promoting and applying psychology for the public good. The title of Chartered Psychologist is legally recognised and reflects the highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise. I am also accredited by the Health and Care Practitioners Council (HCPC), which regulates health and care professionals in the UK to protect the public. Only professionals meeting their standards of training, professional skill and behaviour are allowed to be on the register.

I obtained my degree in Psychology from York University. I then studied criminology at Cambridge University, obtaining my Master's Degree. I undertook the final part of my training at the Institute of Psychiatry, which is part of King's College London, graduating with an MSc in Clinical Psychology in 1993.

After qualifying, I worked in the NHS for over 10 years, providing services to adults with mental health issues and substance misuse difficulties. I then started my own practice, primarily to better balance the challenges of work and childcare. My family and I moved to Germany in 2003, where I continued to work as a psychologist, offering therapy to English-speaking clients in the Frankfurt area. I also worked in a large international school with pupils aged 11 and upwards, both therapeutically and in support of those with learning difficulties. After returning to the UK in 2016, I established my latest practice in Oxford.

I have continued with professional development since qualifying. I attend workshops and conferences to keep up-to-date with the latest research to inform my practice. I have trained to use the Present State Examination (PSE), which is a diagnostic tool that provides an objective evaluation of symptoms associated with mental disorders. I have a Certificate in Focussed Expressive Psychotherapy (FEP) from the Gestalt Institute at the University of Tucson, Arizona. I hold a Certificate in Competence in Educational Testing (CCET) and I am on the BPS Register of Qualified Test Users (RQTU). I am a certified EMDR therapist and trained with the EMDR Academy in London.
